Activity on January 24th 2018
(Photo session on my first time visited Padre Gomez Elementary School. They were Regular preschool student)
As my first observation in Padre Gomez Elementary School, the principle gave us Kinder-Headstart class for our 1 month in Manila. K-Headstart were preparing gifted children ready to explored their knowledge one step ahead than the regular class. This observation were reported to the class of 1st section and began in the morning at 7.30 am also the activities in the class were handled by teacher, Mrs. Joyce as adviser of the class picked up the student in front of the school and they were ready to went to the class. The ages of the student were 4.5th to 5th years old. Those class are the headstart with 15 specialized students.
They also fluenced to wrote, read and speak in English as their mother tongue languages. First activity in the classroom were the students standing in the front of the class and made 2 lines and prepared their white and blue books.
After that, they used the color matts on the floor. Also, they were have to prayed and sang of the national anthem. The activity were leaded by a class leader. Those means they were ready to learned with Mrs. Joyce.
Pupils also greets all of the classmates and as the daily activities, they was explore about date of the day, absence, also read the daily song on the flip chart (Hickory Dickory Dock, Little Miss Muffet, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Ring-a Ring O’ Roses), then they were doing a little bit excercise to warmed their bodies. The teacher focus on prepared the material of the topics for today. The topics were about Non-Standard Measurement in general. The teacher brought a folder that included something inside (Filipino books, paper clips, pencil, also ruler).
In the opening, the teacher were played the animation video about the non- standard measurement. After that, they were talked the meaning of non- standard measurement and try to measured the sized of the cloth side to side, measured the pencil case with the paper clips, then read the sentences on the board. 09.00 O’clock that were the students time to having break. They were sang a song about how to washed hands and eat properly. Meanwhile, the student would finished those group assignment on the book then submitted to the Mrs. Joyce.
Before 10.30 O’clock, the teacher asked them to played the games that still on the topics. about non-measurement. They’ve to played with groups for example they shall measured the teacher chair, books, teaching table, puzzles and fence with yakult bottles, popsicle sticks, notebooks, paperclips and Adron footsteps. The animated song also played during the class, so when it finished, student could do other activity in the class for free. After they finished the group work, the teacher recalling about what they have been learned and write down the final of measured work. Then, they prepared and cleaned up the class. The leader ready to lead the prayed condition properly, then they are ready to back to the house.
For the 2nd section, the differences were on the main activity in the class. They were measure the long table with those hands palm. For the first trial, Mrs. Joyce asked one student to try. But, it’s hard for children to moved the hands. And the teacher asked the all of the student to measured the color matts with hand palms. Then, they’ve should finished the assignment book and gave the colors of the picture. So it would be good for the pupils focus on the individual task.
The strengthen between both of the section, which the first section do the assignment all in the group and they’ve should be associated with classmates and socialized with each other. And for the second section, they would be have time to relax and focus on individual task. After my first observation, I had interviewed schedule with cooperation teacher as main teacher of the class. Also about the curriculum K-12. Then, for the next observation, I'll completely know about full day school activities. as my first impression, I got many information on my next class observation
