Practice Teaching as Intern Teacher

After Final Demo for Evaluation days

The outcome of practicum as out bond student in Philippines, Manila which is student teacher learned well how to teach properly, how to gave instruction and warn children with learn new techniques with Classroom Rules, daily routine, and also Red Dots as warning for children and also how to manage classroom and lesson plan. K-Headstart are Philippines Department of Education programs that have differences with Indonesian curriculum, they have to prepared and facilitated for talented and gifted preschool. So, I thought that Indonesian teacher can adopt the programs to facilitate preschooler whom gifted and talented in education areas. Practicums in the classroom also practice my pronounciation and speaking skills and also readiness to class activity and prepared the lesson plan.

The challenges of practicum, specially on my first practical teaching was how to managed student during the lesson. Because, sometimes few student wasn't hear teachers rules, shouted and cried in the classroom. Also, when the teachers chose one by one to answer the question or write down on the blackboard, student wrest to answered without obeys teachers rules. Then, gave them explanation about classroom rules student tried to understand and followed the instruction


As long one month passed to prepared teach student and also learned new culture to manage children, genuine delighted my impression to know and research all of things new. School atmosphere in Manila as intern teacher and also my first time to teach Kinder Headstart.

First Impression after the observation in Kindergarten Headstart. School System in Padre Gomez Elementary School had best School System, School information and lots of kindhearted Teacher and parents


The school has two kinds class for kindergarten pupils. The first were conducted by regular class for preschool or kindergarten and the second were class for gifted children as Headstart class. The differences both of program was in mother tongue languages. For kinder-Headstart used English language along the program, but also had Filipino and Makabayan’s. then, for the regular class, the program used Filipino as the mother tongue.


Padre Gomez also public school those included regular and special education. Also for K-headstart class, in Philippine are just for selected school. Padre Gomez also have programs to help poor family to getting food in rested time. Because sometimes, hard to found the student have nutrient food that they would’ve at home. Padre Gomez also have Religious environment to children. Before the children entered the program, school asses children from 5 aspects. Cognitive, Language development, Social-emotional, Arts, Religious, Mathematics, Physical motor, etc. Then, parents would be received the result. Those means the children would have different builds ability areas. Also about the teachers, in K-headstart were teach by SPED Teacher (Special Education teacher). They also received the reports of every quarter (Releasing of Cards). That would be the measurement of every quarters in semester.


Preparation for lesson plan and media, teacher made 4th quarter of topics for Science, Math, English, Filipino and Makabayan’s for every day or weeks. Then, the teacher would be develop the topic for the K-headstart, the lesson also one step difficult than the regular, because the children were afford to viewed the concepts of lesson. Projector's as main objects to helped teacher prepared the lesson, and teacher have been used the Charts to made the concepts easier. Because those could be used every time and movable. Speaker also help the teacher to presented audio media. Also classroom near of Comfort Room’s and they also have water filling area.


During observation, student have 3 hours per day and also two section. First section were started on 07.30 am - 10.30 am and also 10.30 am - 01.00 pm. Teacher also picked up the student from main gate and leaded the student to the classroom.



The problem was student haven’t known about toilette training for daily health routine. It also became problems because the school was hard to having clean water everyday to fulfilled people around the SPED’s building. Toilette training shall be teached since pupils are in golden age. Those means, they would be cared about themselves. Because sometimes, each student doesn’t used water to cleaned up, so it was hard for other student those wanted to used the toilette. But pupils need to independent to managed themselves and sometimes parents help pupils to clean up. I believe that Teacher and parents helped the pupils to took care about themselves


Also to measured evaluation everyday, the teacher of K-headstart prepared work books or note in different colors for different subject. The teacher also gave the assignment sheet or writing time. The teacher prepared drill task to the student for student self-minded about the subject during the class. Before practice teaching, student teacher required to have consultation to cooperating teacher for the lesson plan. Have conference to talking about teaching technique, preparing media, also the preparation for the lesson. Because sometimes lesson plan is related to our time management. Then, try to practiced the action words in English.


Also I want to say Thank you for Teacher Ms. Joyce Laraquel, Principal Mr. Noel Gelua and also Teachers during I've been in PGES' and all of great environment of parents. Thank you Po :)

Time management and Organizing Activities

As long I’ve tried to practice teaching at K-Headstart, for the first time was really hard to controlled the student because they were so active. Also when prepared so many activities during the class were chaotic. So, I've learned how to controlled situation with Classroom Rules, and Red Dots. Red Dots were warning for the student who obeys the rules. So, while organized class activity it became easier. Learned from my first practice teaching, prepared the lesson and activity based on time management everyday were a must! For example, class were started on 07.30 and rest time were on 09.00 then, accumulation time based on activity shall be well prepared. Then after that, continued the lesson only until 10.30 am. So, from the lesson plan, we prepared the activity during the lesson for teacher’s and pupil’s. For organizing activities, children condition must be checked before we started our lesson. Sometimes, student weren’t ready to started the day. Teacher shall asked the children about learning tools and student readiness mental every day. In Kindergarten-headstart, organizing activities during morning routine to well prepared. Each students were having days to be a leader. Then, student focus to started the routine with students leader and it continued as daily activities. K-headstart class have morning daily routine pray, national anthem, exercise time, and also counting, days of today, our news etc. K-headstart has good organized routine every day and also discipline personal. When the lesson were began, teacher also could gave warning and discipline.


At that time, I learned how to managed class situation with time accumulation during the activity. So, during the practice teaching all the activity would be clear. Then, Teacher Joyce told us how to warning student with Red Dots and also counting until 4. Actually, Headstart’s student would be listen to teacher if teacher wrapped the lesson with exciting materials and media. Because of student used color matts during the lesson, teacher shall be prepared to manage student to prepare their matts. Because, sometimes hard to manage the class situation if student have problem with their friends to having matts. Then, teacher also need to told them fair with each other and caring with classmates

Changes in Matters (Solid to liquid, Liquid to gas, Liquid to solid)

Teaching material for the experiment was the real objects and also teacher might used simple and unique way. Teacher also should be researched the concepts and reminding best way for children. Material or subject matters : Alcohol 70%, Ice cubes that I bought from store outside school and also mineral water. Those objects was easy to found.

Then, during lesson, review previous lesson about Matters then explained to Experiment in Science (Changes in Matters) about Solid to liquid, Liquid to gas, liquid to solid. Teacher also explain about Changes in Matters, but then let pupils to build knowledge by themselves to gave them Explain with Raised hand and teacher perhaps make sure to motivated student. Because, learning system weren't teacher centered (student centered environment). Despite, Gifted and Talented student well-known about the lesson. So, those time teacher might build student-centered time.

Based on the attached lesson plan, the Objective also drill task (writing time) to self-reminded lesson between subject and children "remembering area"
