Thailand dance performance were presented by 9 selected student from different countries, Indian, Indonesians, Malaysia, Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand. Traditional dance performanced aims to introduce the student about Thailand local which the program to builds up among International Experience. Before the International day, all of the student learned with groups (Divided by class) and SUIC Students gave the Historical stories about and let all the students to make circle and dance together. A Northen Thai stye dance called Fawn leb (fingernail dance), basic movement with slow music.
Traditional Thai dance divided into three main categories,
First is Khon is the most stylized form of Thailand dance. Its performed by dancers who mime the action while the story is being told/ sang by a chorus in the background. Khon Characters include demons, monkeys, humans, and celestial beings. The dance may acquire agility and muscular exertion. Most Khon performances feature episodes from the Ramakien, the Thai version of Ramayana, the Indian epic.
Lakhon is less formal than Khon and the dancers do not wear masks. Lakhon dance movements (especially the upper torso and hands) are graceful, sensual and fluid portraying different emotions. Dancers are usually female and perform as group rather than representing individual characters. Lakon plots a wider range of stories drawn from the Ramakien, the Jatakas (stories of previous lives of Siddharta Gautama Buddha) and folk story.
Fawn Thai is a form of “folk-dance” accompanied by folk music of the province and will usually dall within five classic styles;
Fawn Leb (Fingernails dance from Chiang Mai
Fawn Ngiew ( Scarf dance from Chiang Rai
Fawn Marn Gumm Ber (Butterfly Dance)
Fawn Marn Mong Kol (Happy Dance)
Fawn Tian (Candle Dance)
Fawn leb (fingernail dance): A Northern Thai dance style. Each dancer wears six inch long brass fingernails. The long fingernails accentuate the finger movement of each dancer. Dancers wear their hair in a chignon-style with a yellow jasmine flower tiara.
Fawn tian (candle dance): A performance consists of eight dancers, each carrying candles. Dancers are in pairs, one pair to each side. They wear full-length sarongs and jackets with a matching shoulder cloth. This dance is always held at night.
Fawn ngiew (scarf dance): A dance performed at a happy event. The dance is similar to the fon lep but the dance is faster and more fun. Each dancer wears a yellow flower tiara, jong kra bane, and sabai.
Least, representatives students were chosen by SUIC had performance in front of VIPs, presided over by Professor Emeritus Khunying Khaisri Sri-aroon and another VIP’S also on International day in 9th August 2018 in the opening of International day. Special costume that similar with traditional attire well prepared and as first timer presented Thailand dance,that was overjoyed and captivated experience in Thailand.
